Action
(1) If the player is not mentally present at the game and forgets at his turn to react the dealer/player at that time says “Your action.”
(2) If game is heating up and any of the players has got three hearts and a rapid movement in game is seen you assume some action is going as somebody might have hit the flush.
Ante
This is a formal rule not in all but some forms of poker games to place small amount of bet. However in standard game such bets are not made but blinds are used.
Robot
It is for the online play in which player plays the game with computer not a human that computer is referred to as a “robot”.
Bottom Pair
Card that has smallest value on the deck, example; if you have A’s and 9s and the result comes kd- ht – C6 you have hit a bottom pair of cards.
Brick & Mortar
IT is referred to as the official place of playing poker with proper dealer and a casino culture in it.
Chop
An option given to players if they had placed blinds but in the response no other player in that game has raised or placed any bet. Players are allowed to take back their bets if they want.
Counterfeit
This term refers to a hand that loses its strength if a card of same number comes on table, it will reduce the strength of your pair. As for consideration you got 4 5 straight pair and on the table there is 5 6 –T- J .so a 5 has made a pair on the table stronger than you, it might be not helpful now to use your hand.
Cripple
If you got two kings already in hand and to make perfect hand that will not allow any player even to think of getting back in the game the other pair of kings comes on deck, it means you have made deck worthless for other players.
Dead Money
(1) The amount of cash you have put as blind bet, if used it will be dead or a player who can’t even win with a best hand, now gets back in game is referred to as dead.
Dog
Normally called to a person who was previously loosing and suddenly with a move got a share in the table normally “underdog”
Draw
If a player that thinks he got a good pair and could get the table but not the right cards on the table yet. He can decide to draw out by only saying “I am drawing out”
Draw Dead
You are just wasting the time if you think that after making a hand you can get into the game or get any share at table when some one already have done so. Then it is said that you are getting the dead draw.
Equity
It means you have earned something and it is yours till the game is going for example the table is worth $100 and you got $50 in it you have the chance of winning about fifty percent. But it at least shows your worth at the table at this point.
Extra Blind
A player who wants to remain in the game and puts some extra cash on the table has placed a blind that refers to Extra Blind.
Family Pot
The rule to place bet is necessary for each player on the deck at the start of the game.
Fast Play
The player gets on fire if he wants to be in the game as much as he can. It is some times part of a player strategy just to make the other player rush so he could make a mistake.
Fish
Sometimes the professional jealousy or personal attacks are carried during play so the new player gets disheartened and just leaves the game. One must have fun while playing so such things are not appreciated.
Gap Hand
A distance between two cards according to their value is said to be gap between them. For example T9 has single gap in it. While 46 have two gaps in it.
Gutshot Straight
The combination of five cards combining two in your hand and three out of five on the table that gives total of five cards in straight this is a : “Gut Shot”
Heads-Up
If at a table only two players are left to play for the whole table then it is said to be heads – up situation.
House
The management of a specific casino that owned the place or running it is called as house. They charge a fixed amount from each player in each game.
Jackpot
The jackpot refers to the amount one wins from the air, you can say he was just trying his luck with the cards and got a perfect hand that could win the whole table. Jackpots are fixed to a maximum of say $100,000 or $50,000 depending on the income the house is generating. Mostly this money is in the ownership of the house as won by dealers.
Jam
The game that has no limit of betting, you can bet as big as you want on the table.
Kicker
An unused card placed on the table that could be used to make a new pair by combining to your cards. Suppose a king and queen is on the table and you have an A now you have to decide which kicker is to be used with A to make a best hand for the current situation so it is very important that you know the strength of each pair in Holdem.
Leak
Your own mistake in judging a situation where you could have made a lot of cash, if you had waited for another turn or paired the cards better. Example He has no idea what has he lost by making a move so early, he has a leak in game.
Limp
To make a wrong move at very beginning of the game that affected your position in the whole game. Example: She made a limp at the beginning.
Made Hand
A pair of cards arranged in such a way that once made does not need to reconsider as it’s a wining hand and you do not want to draw it.
Micro-Limit
These are mostly referred to those games played online as the bets are very small compared to real life game. No one at a casino will say a whole table would be played for a total of $25. Limit is so micro.
Muck
The cards placed by the players or folded at a specific place so if one does not want to carry on, he touches that place on table with cards to show his intention that he wants to fold his cards.
Nuts
In the whole game when you recall which player won the specific round with best paired cards, those best paired cards are referred to as Nuts. Although they are not actually nuts it’s just a term used to call them.
Outrun
Beat someone at any time with best hand at the table. Example he outrun her at third community card.
Over pair
A combination of pair that is higher in value to any of the card at present table. If you got two Qs together and the pair comes at table k 8 5, you have an over pair.
Pat
If you place your cards next to the current combination of cards at the table, for example; there is currently three spades at the table and you got two in hand that makes simply a flush or five of spades.
Pot-Committed
A situation where you have no will of your own to put money in the table, you were forced at that time to put all your remaining chips in the pot.
Quads
It is a combination of four cards of similar group. Example is, four cards of heart.
Rake
The financial stake of management that is running the casino, taken by dealer from the table from each player.
River
The last card shown at the end of fifth round whether players want to or not. It is a rule of the game. Most people lose because winning in this round is crucial.
Rock
The person who is playing aggressively with best paired cards and no one at the table understands his strategy or is not in a position to beat him. Such a player is called a rock.
Satellite
A settlement that allows players to sit in the next game if they win the first and no cash from the first win is awarded rather that is charged as fee for next game.
Set
A set of total three cards out of which two are in your hand with third one is placed on the table. This combination of cards is said as a set.
Splash the Pot
Throwing the chips in the pot rather placing them in a line in front of your position.
Split Pot
When two players have equal equity in the table that is said a split pot or split table.
Thin
To draw one or two chips from the table. It is Drawing thin.
Tilt
To play without thinking. A player is referred to be playing bluff if he’s not taking interest in the game rather wasting time by placing bad paired hands.
Under the Gun
A condition when player needs to place small and big blind. These bets are forced by the dealer or a rule of the game so it is called “Under the gun”.
Value
Every pair of cards has some value to it that shows the strength of the cards, or you just while bluffing, ask your opponent to bet for the pair you got is called as Value.
Wheel
A direct or counting straight from A to fifth card is a wheel.
